Pure Michigan Photo Contest

The New Year brings an exciting new opportunity and challenge to my photography career. I’m pleased to announce I have been chosen as one of ten photographers to compete in the first annual Pure Michigan Photo Contest (Pro Division).

This event will begin on March 1, 2009. Each selected photographer has been partnered with a Michigan Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB). We will be photographing in that designated geographic area for four months, “hosted” by the CVB, who will assist in providing photographic opportunities as often as is reasonable. Four months are dedicated to allow for the opportunity to capture images throughout the entire spring season.

At the end of the four months, each photographer will submit their 30 best images. Those images will appear online and in a hard-cover book titled, Pure Michigan-Spring Scenic Places along with the photographer’s bio, photo and web site information.

The purpose of this photography competition is to provide breathtaking publications with stunning scenic images of Michigan to promote, support and drive tourism in the State of Michigan, and to further enhance the Pure Michigan tourism campaign.

The following photographers were selected to compete this spring for the chance at the $5000 cash prize:

  • Benzie County: Drew Smith of Arlington, VA
  • Blue Water / Port Huron: David A. Vore of Flint, MI
  • Flint & Genesee County: Kent Miller of Bay City, MI
  • Frankenmuth: Sam Tang of Wixom, MI
  • Grand Rapids: Steven Walker of Kalamazoo, MI
  • Kalamazoo: James Ramirez of San Francisco, CA
  • Marquette: Brent Kauth of Minneapolis, MN
  • Muskegon / White Lake: Stacy Niedzwiecki of Rockford, MI
  • Saginaw: George Faerber of Columbus, OH
  • Traverse City: Jon Holderer of Remsenburg, NY
  • Alternate: Ron Porritt of Hudsonville, MI

I’m very much looking forward to assisting the Muskegon / White Lake area to capture photos of the best their area has to offer. I’d love for you all to cheer me on – it appears I may be the only female photographer in this very accomplished group! From what I understand, there were approximately 40 portfolios submitted, so it’s a thrill to move on to the next level of the competition.

I’m sure I’ll be writing more about this event later in the year. The competition for the Spring begins on March 1, 2009.  Look for the winners will be published in the Pure Michigan-Spring Scenic Places book and posted on www.puremichiganphotocontest.com at the completion of the Competition after September 30, 2009.

Additionally, for those of you who are shutterbugs… there is also an online photo contest open to anyone – both amateur and professional photographers. There are some very good prizes – give it a try!

Meanwhile, I invite you to enjoy the online portfolio (requires Flash) I assembled for the review.
If you happen to be interested in any of the images featured in the slideshow, please feel free to contact me.
