To another artist’s work – high school classmate and friend Maria Bucek Orr.
Last night there was a devastating fire at a local church – St. Mary Magdalen of Kentwood, Michigan. My friend is a very talented stained glass artist and lifelong church member. The project to create new windows for the church took her about three-and-a-half years to complete. She had created pieces for the church’s nine entrances and the upper clerestory windows. The windows were dedicated only about two-and-a-half years ago – and sadly now the beautiful results are now entirely gone due to the fire.
The slideshow I’m posting here are from the dedication ceremony for the windows, which I was asked to photograph. The entire church appears to be a loss at this time. I’m sure the church may rebuild, but for now these images are going to be very important for those who are suffering the loss of such a central place in the community.
