ARTPRIZE artist Derek Maxfield’s attempt to make an amazing ice sculpture display last 20 days in September at the Gerald R. Ford Museum. Derek will also have exciting live FIRE AND ICE sculpting performances. He is using colored ice and special effect lighting to create a frozen underwater environment.
Come “CHILL OUT” at the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Museum Sept 23rd – Sept. 30th. See you there!
Derek Maxfield has won a multitude of awards for his ice sculpting skills. So many – it’s best just to visit his ArtPrize page to review them all!
For ArtPrize 2009, he is creating a three-dimensional sculpture with a main focal point being a of a stylized tiger shark swimming through its habitat. The bio-degradable art will be illuminated with colored lighting.
Derek will also be doing live ice sculpting shows daily. His exhibit will take over a month to create all the fine detail, ice paintings, and delicate features rarely seen in an ice sculpture.
Derek’s unique attraction will be set up in a freezer truck parked in front of the Gerald R. Ford Museum. The sculpture will be viewed at the rear of the truck through a window.
